REEF NET brand Wild Pacific Smoked Salmon recall

Recalled by Barlean's Fishery Inc. · Ferndale, WA, United States

Class III — Low risk. Unlikely to cause harm, but violates FDA regulations.

Why it was recalled

REEF NET brand Wild Pacific Smoked Salmon, Ready-To-Eat product, is recalled due to undeclared soy lecithin. The firm used soy release agent but did not declare soy lecithin in the ingredients statement. There was no allergens "Contains" statement on affected product's label.

Undeclared allergens: Soy Fish

For someone with a food allergy the label is the only protection. An undeclared allergen can trigger a severe reaction even in a trace amount, which is why most of these recalls are Class I. All undeclared allergens recalls.

Low risk, but check. Class III means the product is unlikely to make anyone ill but breaks an FDA rule, often a labeling one. If your package matches, the store will normally refund it. The risk from an undeclared allergen is to people allergic to soy, fish; for anyone else the product is generally not a safety concern. FDA lists this recall as terminated: the company has finished removing the product, so it should no longer be on shelves - but it can still be in a freezer or pantry.
