Honey Cake internal PLU code 203190 recall

Recalled by New Seasons Market LLC · Portland, OR, United States

Class II — Moderate risk. May cause temporary or reversible harm; serious harm unlikely.

Why it was recalled

Honey Cake's sticker on the top of a package states "buttermilk and sour cream" but milk is not declared. The bottom scale label has the Contains statement but "MILK" is not declared.

Undeclared allergen: Milk

For someone with a food allergy the label is the only protection. An undeclared allergen can trigger a severe reaction even in a trace amount, which is why most of these recalls are Class I. All undeclared allergens recalls.

What was recalled

Honey Cake, internal PLU code 203190, is a seasonal bakery product. A loaf shaped cake is wrapped with cellophane, stored ambient, and sold from displayed tables. The orange sticker on top of the package is read in parts: "***SEASONAL HONEY CAKE ***Made in small batches, with Bee Local Willamette Valley Honey, Stumptown Coffee, Local Cage-Free Eggs, Local Buttermilk & Sour Cream***". The scale white label at the bottom of the package is read in parts: "***Flour, eggs, honey, sugar, canola oil, coffee, raisins, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, baking powder, ginger*** Contains: eggs, wheat***".

Quantity: 535 units.

Check the codes, then return or discard. Class II means eating it may cause temporary or reversible health problems. If your package matches the recalled codes, do not eat it - return it to the store or throw it away. The risk from an undeclared allergen is to people allergic to milk; for anyone else the product is generally not a safety concern. FDA lists this recall as terminated: the company has finished removing the product, so it should no longer be on shelves - but it can still be in a freezer or pantry.
